Getting plenty of wood into a room can help to turn it rustic.
Using plenty of wood, perhaps in the form of dining room furniture, has been highlighted as a key consideration for those looking to design a rustic home.
Helen Green, writing for terrysfabrics.co.uk, suggests those hoping to create such a look must add items made from natural materials that remain in their original state, perhaps with a weathered or used feel.
She urges people to "think reclaimed wood", as well as of other substances such as stone and wool.
When rustic wooden dining room furniture is combined with "chic textiles" and smooth lighting the result "is rough against smooth, vintage alongside modernity", Ms Green writes.
But following one style is not a necessity, as putting modern furniture with vintage pieces can also work particularly well, she notes.
Ian Boughton, writing for the Morning Advertiser this week, said comfort should be the ultimate priority when buying wooden furniture, especially in commercial environments.
