Using furniture as a "focal piece" will help to create a brighter home

People may be wise to do up their guest rooms at this time of year

A design expert has offered tips to people looking to use furniture to give their home a boost this spring.

Property owners have been offered tips on how to use their furniture to spruce up their home in time for spring.

Michelle LaFrance, writing for the Seattle Times, suggests choosing lightly coloured wood furniture in a bid to create a bright and airy feel in a room.

Replacing darker items is especially recommended, while combining the new pieces with bright colours like red, pink and yellow will give the space a seasonal boost.

Ms LaFrance has further advice for trendy dwellers, stating: "If a busy room needs to feel lighter, place one large focal piece in a space that's clear and open."

She recommends a tall table as one such item, but a large display cabinet or coffee table is likely to have the same effect.

Author CouponKate, writing for the Blog and Save website, this week explained young people on a budget should choose a piece of furniture to be a focal point and to decorate around it.ADNFCR-2589-ID-19721641-ADNFCR
