Painting bedroom furniture 'best bet' for homeowners

People who want to paint their bedroom furniture have been given advice.

Britons who want to alter the appearance of their bedroom furniture may want to take heed of one expert's advice.

Individuals who are thinking of changing the colour of their bedroom furniture have been encouraged to make use of paint.

Writing for the Washington Post, Jeanne Huber explained while stripping the existing finish is the "safest and surest" way of refinishing an item, it can also be a "pain".

She added this is especially the case if working in the bedroom.

Instead, Ms Huber noted paint may be the best option, as it is "fairly fail-safe" and means people avoid getting a "blotchy look" on the wood.

However, she did observe using paint means wood grain will no longer be visible.

And her comments may interest Britons on the lookout for new bedroom furniture, or those who want to alter the appearance of furnishing they already own.

Ms Huber was responding to a reader who stated they want to stain their light, yellowy wood to an extremely dark colour.

This follows remarks from Terrysfabrics.co.uk's interior designer Helen Green, which suggested black is currently in fashion in UK properties. ADNFCR-2589-ID-800022649-ADNFCR
