Those with a large flat-screen television may need to purchase new furniture to allow the appliance to blend in, it has been claimed.
People who have just splashed out on a giant new flat-screen television may find they need to purchase new furniture to ensure the appliance fits in with the living room.
This is the suggestion of Kate Watson-Smyth, writing for the Independent, who stated that a TV of this kind can dominate a room unless it is surrounded by other contemporary features.
She noted that buying a mahogany cabinet is unlikely to be much help, adding: "The telly is modern, so there's [no] point trying to put it in a faux antique."
If space is limited, Ms Watson-Smyth explained, choose items that are multi-functional, as well as aesthetically pleasing.
Select furniture that can hold books or even a few decorative ornaments, she commented.
Her remarks follow similar advice given by interior designer Marie Graf, reported in the El Paso Times, that many individuals will be looking for more contemporary furnishings in 2010.
