Writing for YourHome.ca, the columnist said: "Colour is introduced with familiar patterns of checks and stripes and small floral designs in blue, green and red."
She added that paint can also be utilised to lighten up bare wooden furniture in its natural state, saying that whites, greys and pastel hues are ideal for creating a light and airy feel in the home.
Meanwhile, those wishing to complement their coffee table or sofa with an exotic focal point should look no further than an oriental rug.
