Lounge room furniture 'needs balance'

Different shapes of lounge room furniture may benefit designers.

Britons who want to add lounge room furniture to their home may want to consider symmetry in their interior design.

Lounge room furniture could be combined in a certain way to create a "charming" effect in the home, one property specialist has suggested.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Lisa Grainger noted how senior fashion lecturer Timothy Rundle has transformed his 1960s bungalow into a "sleek" open-plan property that would be at home in New York.

And one part of the property's design that really caught her eye was how Mr Rundle decided to focus on symmetry throughout.

Ms Grainger observed: "It is precisely this balance – of soft and hard shapes and colours, of delicate and solid objects, of straight lines alongside curvy shapes – that gives this space so much charm."

Those looking to add to their collection of lounge room furniture may want to take Mr Rundle's scheme into consideration when pairing leather chairs or sofas.

This follows comments from Pascoe Interiors, which suggested people should opt for "beautiful" wooden furnishings when sprucing up their home.
