Lounge room furniture 'could be inspired by Italy'

Window shutters have been named as one of the must-have features in the design world

The distinctive Italian style has been suggested as a fashionable trend.

The contemporary style associated with Italy encompasses energy and confidence and, according to a furniture expert, fits comfortably in both antique and sparsely-decorated interiors.

Debbie Travis suggested to News Tribune readers that the palette of Italian design is reminiscent of soil and could be used to good effect in the living room.

Orange and yellow, when used on sofas, are easily complemented by brown cushions in deep chocolate stripes, the interiors expert said.

Ms Travis explained: "Much of the inspiration for my work has come from Italy and I have created a new venture that enables me to share my passion for this country."

The project she refers to is a holiday for women in Tuscany where people gather to discuss ideas and be inspired by the countryside.

Earthy tones were recently recommended for children's bedrooms by Rita Minogue in an OZCARGuide.com article, as hues such as grey, brown and beige are reported to have calming effects.
