A newspaper writer has recalled her memories of a clean and tidy coffee table as a child.
One author has spoken of her childhood memories, revealing the coffee table in her home was seen as an "oasis of tidy".
Nancy Williams, writing a piece for the Asheville Citizen-Times, recalls parts of the property were kept in a special way in order to host guests when they arrived.
Included in this was a sofa that for much of the time was "not for sitting" and a coffee table "we weren't allowed to put anything on".
Indeed, such was the determination of her mother to keep the coffee table tidy, any items that were placed on it were thrown away.
"The rest of the house could be in condemnable condition, and often was, but house rules stated the coffee table must remain clear. An oasis of tidy in the midst of the chaos," states Ms Williams.
Cheri Roberto told the Philippine Daily Inquirer recently that coffee tables in bright and vibrant colours can help to spice up the look of a room.
