Furniture styles 'can be mixed and matched'

Mixing different furniture styles can work well, according to expert

People should not be afraid to buy furniture in different styles for the same room, it has been claimed.

Homeowners looking to redecorate their properties should not be afraid to blend different styles of furniture and accessories.

This is the opinion of interior designer Wanda Colon, who told the Flint Journal that shoppers should buy furnishings that they enjoy, rather than simply trying to make everything match.

She used an example from her own interior design escapades to highlight how this can work.

"I've got a black and white contemporary rug that doesn't go with anything, but I love it," Ms Colon said. "And with the old table, it looks great."

According to the expert, another often forgotten trick to revitalising a room is to remove furniture to free up space.

Taking things out can often give greater impact, she explained, adding that people should get their friends to help them with any heavy lifting.

Earlier this month, interior designer Michelle Mawby told the National Post that mixing and matching furniture provides intriguing interiors.ADNFCR-2589-ID-19623150-ADNFCR
