Furniture should match flooring, expert says

Wooden furniture should complement flooring, it has been claimed

People need to consider how well furniture will match with their existing flooring, according to one specialist.

Homeowners should be aware of how any future furniture purchases will complement their current flooring scheme.

This is according to industry specialist Michel Collin, who told News Canada that if both are made out of wood, it can be particularly tricky.

When bringing in new items it is vital they don't clash, he explained.

Mr Collin added: "You can either match the wood furniture to the floor or you can opt for a contrast which gives a very nice look."

According to the expert, oak, cherry and dark mahogany furnishings will often combine well with light-coloured wooden flooring.

Individuals were also advised to consider floorboards before any other element in the room, as features can be added around this base.

Mixing and matching was recently highlighted as a great way to create interesting furniture environments by interiors specialist Michelle Mawby.

She told the National Post that this technique works best in homes that have built up a stockpile of objects over the years.ADNFCR-2589-ID-19673614-ADNFCR
