Furniture 'should be loved'

Setting up sofa 'is important for watching TV in comfort'

A designer suggests ways to make a home people's favourite place.

Furniture can turn a house into a home and having a chair you can "melt into" will create the comfortable environment everyone deserves, it has been suggested.

Design choices should focus on making individuals love their home, said interiors expert Laurie Ann McMillin Ray in a recent interview with La Jolla Light, where she urged homeowners to surround themselves with objects they adore.

She explained: "People ask me, 'Should I have this style or that?' and I tell them to fill their home with what they love."

Taking inspiration from beloved items in the home is a good start when decorating a room, Ms Ray advised, who once revamped an entire kitchen using the pattern of a client's favourite plates.

This advice corresponds to the suggestion that walls and furniture should complement each other, made recently by ARA in the Creston News Advertiser, with the news provider adding that purple is likely to be popular in 2010.ADNFCR-2589-ID-19650856-ADNFCR
