Following advice to collect objects, homeowners might want to put them in a display cabinet.
Collecting objects to decorate the home has been highlighted by one expert as a quick way of updating an interior, with items potentially being stored in display cabinets.
Celia Colista recommended hunting through garage sales, thrift shops and flea markets to readers of the Sun Herald, as a means of gathering accent pieces for a room.
Those who successfully find decorative objects will need to house them somewhere and Ms Colista suggested: "Figure out what you need to find homes for these objects. Do you need shelves? A pretty basket or handsome tray?"
The advice mentioned candlesticks and vases as examples of items to look out for but it warned against over-cluttering a room, adding instead that cardboard boxes filled with miscellaneous objects or piles of CDs could be better organised.
Homeowners have also been alerted to other quick and easy ways of updating a living room, notably in a recent National Post article, which urged people to maximise design potential by rearranging furniture.
