Choose solid wood display cabinet or table for long-term investment

Bookcases set for new library?

The merits of solid wood furniture have been explained by one writer.

When looking for a new display cabinet or dining room table, opting for items made from solid wood is a shrewd investment, according to one writer.

Marge Enriquez, writing for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, said solid wood brings with it a significant range of benefits.

The first of these is its elegance and beauty that is sure to invigorate any home - perhaps especially so if it is used as a room's focal point.

But there are also technical advantages to using solid wood, such as increased strength, versatility and warmth compared with other materials.

Ms Enriquez notes: "It ages gracefully while remaining easy to manipulate. Its surfaces are durable and reparable."

Popular types of quality wood include narra, mahogany and radiata - which is a sustainable source of pine from New Zealand.

Homeowners planning an investment in dining room furniture for the long term may be best advised to turn to solid wood.

Aisha Sultan, of the St Louis Post Dispatch, recently suggested wooden furniture can create a spring feel to rooms. ADNFCR-2589-ID-19763094-ADNFCR
