Check sofa's strength before buying, says expert

Red sofa 'perfect for Christmas'

A furniture expert has advised homeowners preparing to buy a new sofa.

People planning the purchase of a new sofa to liven up their living room have been offered some words of advice by a furniture expert.

David Jordan, in an interview with Deal Spotter, says the first thing to do when browsing sofas is to lift them up.

If a sofa lifts squarely then it is more likely to be of good quality and will last, whereas a "flimsy" piece of furniture is perhaps a cheap option.

"Better sofas also have hardwood frames and eight-way, hand-tied springs, allowing each spring to operate independently for comfort and durability," Mr Jordan adds.

It is also worth looking out for some of the manufacturing methods, with a sofa that has been screwed, pinned and glued together preferable to one that is less secure.

The importance of a quality sofa was emphasised this week by Helen Green, writing for Terrys interior design blog, who said the furniture can help to create an inviting lounge.ADNFCR-2589-ID-19760456-ADNFCR
